Synopsis: From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the filmmaking team behind the blockbuster franchise “Pirates of the Caribbean”, comes Disney’s “The Lone Ranger,” a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.

Verdict: How often do we get a film with a decent onscreen comedic chemistry between two lead actors and yet the movie still kinda sucks? Not often at all but this is one of them. This remake has loads of fun, humour and big budget action as a fresh, modern approach to adapting the classic, but at times, it just seems more like a parody of the original and past adaptations of The Lone Ranger rather than an attempt do it justice. Despite being an overly long film, it manages to neglect strengthening the spirit of friendship and justice, and allowing Tonto to lead the show while downplaying the titular protagonist's abilities and making him seem like a fool instead of a true moral figure. There's also a strange storytelling style which no one will find purposeful. If I was watching this at home, I'd probably be tempted to do something else while watching it.

Second opinion: "Draggy but the action is very entertaining" (girlfriend).

Malaysian censorship: Please lah, it's a Disney film.

[SPOILER SECTION BEGINS HERE]--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The actual meaning of Kemosabe: In the original series and past adaptations, Tonto addresses John Reid as Kemosabe 'cause he takes him as a friend or "trusty scout". In this remake, they sorta murdered that, saying that it means "wrong brother". Good joke though.

Tonto in Spanish: At the end of the film, John Reid (Armie Hammer) asks Tonto (Johnny Depp) if he knows what his name means in Spanish and the answer is not revealed, intriguing viewers to Google about it. If you haven't already, Tonto means stupid or fool in Spanish. While, "kemosabe", in Spanish, apparently means "clueless one". So there you have it, the partnership of a fool and a clueless one.

How did Tonto get out of jail? It's not really explained how Tonto escapes from the lockup at the beginning but I believe this is intentional to hopefully spark a debate amongst viewers 'cause they had the boy in the museum asking the question as well. Well in the last shots of that scene, we can see John Reid's nephew in the ranger's office with the guard sleeping on the couch so most probably Tonto made a trade with the kid for the keys like how he does during the climax of the movie. But who cares? The bigger question should be why John Reid was so adamant in bringing Tonto into custody for justice and then later on just go out of character, not caring about what crime he committed that got him chained up right beside the big villain Butch Cavendish (William Fichtner) in the first place? Also, shouldn't he be regretting and learn not to make trades anymore after his greediness caused the death of his entire tribe? ALSO...

Perhaps the only convincing point of the film:

The filmmakers are probably criticizing themselves... right?
