What a surprisingly exciting fight card MIMMA has for its upcoming Grand Finals on June 15th! Three additional Superfights featuring ONE FC fighters were announced by the Malaysian Invasion Mixed Martial Arts (MIMMA) today. Oh me oh my, I can't wait for this one.
Besides the first ever MIMMA Championship Bouts, all eyes in Stadium Negara will definitely be on Peter Davis as the Malaysian will be carrying the pride of the home crowd once again, facing a fighter who's not from the South East Asia region for the first time since leaving the UK. His Costa Rican opponent, Ariel Sexton, is newly signed by the ONE FC, holds a 7-2-1 record (source: Sherdog.com), appeared on The Ultimate Fighter (season 12), is a BJJ black belt under 3 Gracie's (source: TheFightNation.com) and has 6 wins via submission. This will be seen as a striker versus grappler match.
This will definitely be Peter's toughest challenge yet and if he manages to win again and stays unbeaten in the ONE FC (3-0 now), I believe Victor Cui would have to seriously consider to hand him a title shot. Both men are aged 31 but Peter may have a reach advantage as he's 3 inches taller. It's the male model "Pistol" versus "Tarzan" Sexton, and don't worry, there won't be no gay porn music playing in the background.
One of other two superfight bouts features another Malaysian, Saiful "The Vampire" Merican, who'll be looking to get his first MMA win when he faces his opponent from India, Aditya Deshpande, who's 3-0 in FCC (source: Sherdog.com) with 2 of them won via submission. This will be another striker versus grappler match.
Eric Kelly's "Ferocious" younger brother, Edward Kelly, is featured the last superfight bout, up against Tanaphong "The Lanna Warrior" Khunhankaew from Thailand. Edward holds a 1-0 record while Tanaphong holds a 2-2 record. I've seen neither one of their fights but judging by their record and background, I'm expecting an explosive standup exchange.
