Carlsberg Malaysia launches EPL 2013/2014 campaign, win 3D2N stay in UK

The Barclays Premier League (BPL or EPL) is finally back with Carlsberg as the official beer sponsor for the next three years. Known for its passion and long-established association with football, Carlsberg recently launched an integrated BPL 2013/2014 consumer campaign that brings the BPL action from the UK to Malaysia, while at the same time allowing Malaysian fans to experience BPL VIP-style hospitality in the UK.

To kick start the first phase of the campaign, Carlsberg rewards its consumers with limited edition Carlsberg BPL football merchandise at various outlets, eateries, pubs, bars and super/hypermarkets nationwide.

Carlsberg brand ambassadors will make appearances at participating eateries to conduct the Carlsberg BPL Spin & Win contest. Each spin, based on purchase, offers the opportunity for the consumer to take home limited edition BPL merchandise including jerseys, lighters, umbrellas and more.

That’s not all. Carlsberg, being the beer of choice when it comes to football, is sending avid football fans to experience all-expenses-paid trips to the UK to watch live Premier League matches of their choice. Being the official beer of BPL, Carlsberg has access to all 20 football club stadiums.

Imagine being picked up by a friendly Carlsberg brand ambassador at the airport, chauffeured to a trendy hotel and served a meal fit for a football legend, and get pampered like a VIP for a 3D2N stay in the UK. You will visit one of the iconic football stadiums and get access to the private Carlsberg VIP Hospitality Lounge where you will not only watch a football match in style but, if luck is on your side, also have the opportunity to meet your favourite football player or a living legend over a Carlsberg!

Carlsberg can turn your dream into reality. As the one and only premier beer of the Premier League, Carlsberg is offering trips with special VIP privileges and a money-can’t-buy football experience.

One way to win the trip is to participate in the Price for Passion Facebook contest that challenges football fans to prove how far they would go to score this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Even if you don’t score the trip, authentic BPL merchandise including signed jerseys by a football star of one’s choice are also up for grabs. Be bold and visit www.facebook.com/Carlsberg to pledge your “price”. In addition, you can also try to win this ultimate experience via exclusive contests in selected newspapers. Do check out the football column of your local dailies!

Carlsberg will also be holding football viewing parties at selected locations nationwide throughout the season. At these viewing parties, football fans will not only get to enjoy the clash of top clubs in high definition but will also have the opportunity to win more BPL collectibles.

The launch of the Carlsberg BPL consumer campaign was held in a classic English pub setting of the COBRA Club (Petaling Jaya, Selangor) that was given a touch of BPL hospitality. The pub was given a makeover with iconic elements found in the VIP hospitality lounge of some of the top flight Premier League Clubs. These include a replica of the Liverpool Legends mural created by renowned Japanese graffiti artist, Dragon 76, and the long bar in the Carlsberg Lounge at Anfield, the home of Liverpool Football Club. In addition, there is also an Arsenal wall showcasing the illustrious history of the Gunners. A part of the pub was also turned into a BPL gallery, complete with authentic BPL paraphernalia.

Converse launches UNDFTD x CLOT Chuck Taylor All Star

Converse teams up with First String veterans Undefeated & Edison Chen's CLOT for a joint collaboration

Converse UNDFTD x CLOT Chuck Taylor All Star

Last week, Converse Inc. announces the launch of the Converse UNDFTD x CLOT Chuck Taylor All Star ushering in a new joint collaboration between Converse and two longstanding First String partners Undefeated and CLOT. The sneaker collection consists of two styles, which combine iconic elements from each brand, fusing Undefeated’s military and sport-driven ethos with CLOT’s lens on Eastern and Western urban lifestyle culture.

The Converse UNDFTD x CLOT Chuck Taylor All Star collection focuses on material and design as a source of expression with the use of sateen nylon and orange silk. The sateen nylon is a favorite material from the Undefeated arsenal inspired by the classic MA1 flight jacket. The sneaker is accented with orange outsole detailing and finished off with an orange silk lining developed by CLOT adding a touch of luxury representing Clot’s roots in Eastern culture. Designed with an innovative zip-up lace guard woven into the exterior, the sneaker is available in two color ways: black and olive.

A veteran Converse collaborator, Undefeated is an international men’s lifestyle brand and retailer that incorporates military influence into street style culture. CLOT is a lifestyle brand based in Hong Kong and founded by Edison Chen and Kevin Poon.

Converse First String is a limited-edition collection that celebrates craftsmanship, authenticity and collaboration at the highest level. The Converse UNDFTD x CLOT Chuck Taylor All Star sneakers will be available starting Saturday, August 24 at JUICE in Hong Kong and UNDFTD in Las Vegas for $120USD and presumably will arrive in Malaysia in the coming months for around RM450 (if not just purchase it online, I guess).

Batu Tiga Toll Plaza or Batu 3 Toll Subang Jaya

There was a pleasant surprise from Celcom waiting at the Batu Tiga Toll Plaza yesterday morning and it was just so happened that I was passing through there to head over to Subang (to be honest, I was actually lost).

PortaWIFI attack at Batu Tiga Toll

As cars were driving through their respective toll lanes, drivers were handed a flyer which says that FREE PortaWiFi devices are being offered by Celcom now. This will probably make a fantastic Raya gift.

Furthermore, according to the flyer received, Celcom's actually giving out as many as 500 PortaWiFi devices free of charge! So be on the lookout when you drive up to pay your toll.

I'll be going to Sunway Pyramid now to redeem my free PortaWiFi device. Stay tuned for my next update where I'll be providing more info after visiting the Blue Cube counter over there.

Gillette Fusion ProGlide & Shave Gel | Shaver review

Gillette Fusion ProGlide Shaver & Cooling Shave Gel
After 3 years, Gillette's Fusion ProGlide / Advanced ProSeries shavers were finally launched in ASEAN as well. The one the Power Comb was sent to me for a review.

As a typical middle-class Malaysian who doesn't have the type of facial hair that connects to the sideburns, I've always been an user of cheap shavers, some times I'd even keep the free ones provided at hotel rooms so that I wouldn't need to spend again soon to "restock". This was the first time I've ever used such an advanced shaver.

To be completely honest, I wouldn't have even thought of trying this if this wasn't complimentary 'cause I expect the retail price to be luxurious. The official price was not provided to me but according to the comments on Gillette's Facebook Page, it's RM29.90 for the shaver and RM50 for 3 cartridges of the blades. Not sure if that's the price of the one I have here or the one with the Power Comb though.

Gillette Fusion ProGlide Shaver
The high tech shaver really does what its marketing says it's can do. Its thinner blades and its lubrication strip really does provide greater comfort than the cheap shavers that I usually use. It also has a precision trimmer (the single blade) which I can flip the razor over and use it to get clear the difficult-to-reach areas. The back of razor cartridge is not covered so all hair stuck between blades can be easily rinsed away with water. And the grip of the handle is very tight as well. It truly is one hell of a comfortable, convenient, smooth, swift-cutting non-electric shaver.

The Gillette Fusion ProGlide Cooling Shave Gel is very cooling indeed, may help counter razor burns (who would underestimate our Malaysian heat?). Cooling is all I can say about it 'cause I don't get irritation from shaving so I'd never know the need of prevention from that. The protection foam I usually buy's a Gillette product as well and the content's white so I was quite surprised that the gel of this Fusion ProGlide is blue. Just a small spray of the gel could produce a lot of foam so don't go wasting spray too much out.

However, I think the tighter space between the blades of the Fusion ProGlide shaver could probably make it slightly more difficult to shave long and thicker hair. And I really have no idea what's the big difference between 5 blades and 3 or 4. Only the cost perhaps? Although the product really is awesome, RM50 for 3 Fusion cartridges really is quite a luxurious price to maintain compared to the standard ones I usually buy. And some comments on Facebook are saying that the razors are no longer as sharp after just 5 shaves. Maybe I'll update this post after I used the cartridge more than 5 times and tell you what I think. If you used this product before, please do share with us what you think by commenting below.

Lazada is giving away a Mazda 2 & more

Mr. Pezelli along with the Lazada brand ambassador posing with the Mazda 2 Hatchback – the Grand Prize for the Lazada “Giveaway Extravaganza” contest

Lazada Malaysia celebrate their first anniversary by having a contest with prizes worth of RM120,000 in total, including the sporty Mazda 2 hatchback shown in the image above. Do you care who the people in the photo are? In case you do, the dude's Igor Pezzili, the CEO, and the two ladies are ambassadors with no names provided. The contest's called Giveaway Extravaganza (how original) and is running until 20th of June 2013. To "thank" and "reward" their customers in appreciation for the success of their first year, their plan is to have them to spend more apparently.

But wait, why was I at this press conference? 'Cause on the email I received from them, it says that there'll be a lucky draw at the event. It also told me to bring my business card for it. But in the end at the event, it wasn't even mentioned at all. Oh well, at least everyone was given a RM100 voucher which I could probably use it to buy a decent cheap watch.

More details about the contest from their press release:

"Requiring no entry forms, interested participants only need to sign up for the Lazada newsletter on their website to join the contest and win Lazada shopping vouchers of up to RM300 daily. Those that spend a minimum of RM25 also stand a chance to win weekly prizes worth up to RM2,799 while participants that spend RM50 and above will be eligible to win the grand prize. Additionally, BCard holders also stand a chance to win other prizes when used during the contest period.

For the icing on the cake, Lazada Malaysia will top off its rewards to customers with its Syoknya Raya Bersama Lazada campaign which will offer those celebrating Hari Raya an extensive range of quality products from bedding to home and kitchen appliances, spiritual and cooking books, fashion, as well as exclusive deals on electronic products (will be available on 1st June 2013).

Further information on the “Giveaway Extravaganza” contest and Lazada Malaysia can be found at http://www.lazada.com.my, or follow us on our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/LazadaMalaysia."

Charriol celebrates 30th anniversary with new collections

Philippe Charriol & Alexandre Charriol with models in Charriol 30th Anniversary regional launch in Singapore

Last week, I was in Singapore for the 30th anniversary celebration and regional launch of Charriol, a family-owned and operated international luxury brand that specializes in fine Swiss timepieces, jewellery and accessories. Don't be embarrassed if it's the first time you've heard of Charriol 'cause I, too, hadn't heard of it before being invited to this media event. Now what was an entertainment blogger like myself doing there? Well I had never really checked out luxury products in my life ('cause I know I can't afford it) so I thought why not?

To mark its historic 30 years, Charriol asserts its originality and unparalleled energy with a host of exciting additions in each collection – the culmination of two years’ product and brand development. Fresh from the prestigious BaselWorld international watch and jewellery show in Switzerland last March/April 2013, Charriol debuts in Asia the new additions to its St-Tropez™, Celtic®, Celtica™, and COLVMBVS™ ranges, and introduces the modern AEL watch collection as a new product line.

Besides getting to indulge a showcase and display of these elegant and stylish collections that I could never afford, I also got to meet with the founder and owner, Mr. Philippe Charriol, and his son, Alexandre.

When asked about the Malaysian market, Mr. Charriol expressed his confidence saying, “We believe Charriol completes an image, a spirit and a look to fashion-forward Malaysians who value both design and top quality in watches and jewellery. We would like to build and grow the brand in the country with the aim to make Malaysia a focal market in the near future. Wealth and appetite for luxury have been growing in Malaysia, as affluent Malaysians now seek for a brand that can reflect their personality and wealth. I believe Charriol caters to their discerning taste and lifestyle.”

Today, Charriol is currently distributed through a global network of 185 boutiques and 3,800 sales outlets. In Malaysia, the Charriol flagship boutique is located on the Adorn Floor of Kuala Lumpur’s own Starhill Gallery at Jalan Bukit Bintang. To view other exquisite Charriol creations, log on to charriol.com.

There were plenty of different designs showcased at event that day. Here, I handpicked as few (as a man and someone who knows nothing about luxury goods) that I think you might like:

Dislocated big toe; treatment at Sunway Medical Centre

X-ray dislocated big toe distal interphalangeal joint
Approximately a month and a half ago, I dislocated the big toe of my right foot while playing futsal. They call it a distal interphalangeal joint.

Here's the cause of it: like a brave idiot, I went challenging an opposing player who already had his leg raised back for a powerful strike. He swung his foot while I was attempting to clear the ball away, both feet collided and I felt it right away.

Yes, it was a bit painful in the first few seconds after the contact, of course, then probably 'cause I was in shock, it went numb. It was the first time I had ever dislocated any bone so naturally I started panicking. I was like, "fuuuuuck noooooo I'm still too young to quit sports like this!"

Immediately I started hopping off the futsal pitch and I asked my friend to drive me to the closest hospital around, which turned out to be Sunway Medical Centre, one of a few that's famous for being a bit more expensive than other hospitals. I was brought in from the emergency exit. I told the nurse I'm not sure if it's an emergency but she attended me as one anyway. Very kind, very friendly, I was impressed by their attitude.

Here's the process: sat on the wheel chair, filled up a form, waited on the bed in the emergency area, went for x-ray scan, went back to the bed, waited some more, doctor came showing the x-ray scans and telling me what he'd be doing to "reduce the dislocation", waited a bit more, brought to an operation room, doctor gave some scary injection to make the toe numb but didn't promise that it'd be 100% painless, right after that he pulled the toe back in position. The resetting took less than a minute and yet I still managed to yell a few "pain, pain, pain" like a pussy. He finished off by wrapping my foot up with a metal plate that's supposed to support and prevent further damage should there be any impactful contact. But it's useless 'cause the plate can be easily bent. I could shape it into a toy car if I wanted to. Hence after wearing it for only a day, I removed it.

Sunway Medical Centre bill receipt

The bill was expensive as expected. The emergency department alone charged RM103.00! Now you know why they're so nice and friendly. If it wasn't because of the emergency attention, it would've been lesser than 280 bucks.

They told me to come back for consultation after a week and I did. The toe was still swollen and a bit painful  when I bend it so the doctor advised me not to play sports for another two weeks. Gave me some gel to relief the aches (Perskindol), more "papaya pills" to reduce the swelling and billed me another 70 bucks, motherfucker...

Today, after more than a month since revisiting the doctor, the swelling still hasn't fully subsided. Although I can run and jump now but when I try to bend or stretch it to its limit, I can still feel something's blocking, and it hurts a bit. I'm gonna give it another month to see if it'd still be like this, and if it is, I'd have to get a second opinion.

Malaysia's largest Lotus convoy gathering ever! | Firsthand experience

Lotus Evora line up The Host Convoy Malaysia

The largest convoy of Lotus sport cars ever in Malaysia happened last Sunday (7 April) morning... and courtesy of Nuffnang and Nusantara Edaran Filem, I was in it! How cool was that? Over 9000!!! A total of 68 Lotus cars with 17 of them being Lotus Evora's. The convoy was from the Lotus Cars Malaysia Flagship Showroom in Sg Penchala, TTDI, to Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur, led by the Chrome Lotus Evora driven by Asia's fastest female racer Natasha Seatter (in photo below).

Natasha Seatter drove Chrome Lotus Evora replica during The Host Lotus Convoy Malaysia at Pavilion KL

The whole event was obviously to promote the film, The Host. There was a special screening at the GSC of where the convoy ended but of course, I totally skipped it (I've already reviewed movie here). The Chrome Lotus Evora (in images above & below) is specially manufactured to be featured in the movie but for road safety reasons, the replica Natasha drove was only a sticker-ed chrome, which explains why it doesn't look as reflective and beautiful as it is in the film.

Yellow Lotus Exige S V6 during The Host Largest Lotus Convoy in Malaysia
This will definitely be one of the highlights of the year for me 'cause it was the first time I've ever been in a convoy like this and also, the first time I've ever rode in a genuine sport car. I was the passenger of a yellow Lotus Exige S V6 (in photo on the right). I have to admit, I wasn't really excited about the whole thing until I got into the car and felt its power. It's so sexy, god damn it, I absolutely loved it. It's just unfortunate that it was a slowed-down convoy instead of an all-out one. They had the traffic police to block off all vehicles and traffic lights while escorting all 68 of the Lotus cars all the way to our destination in KL. Vrooooom!

My driver for the convoy was Mazlan, from Lotus. During the ride in the convoy, he shared some pretty interesting facts about the cars: the Lotus Evora was actually released in 2011 whereas the model that I was in was just launched in January this year. The price range of an Evora is between RM480,000 to RM670,000 depending on specifications. It's more expensive than the Exige S V6 due its size and luxurious design. He also kinda said that the Exige S V6 is faster and more powerful than the Evora, and that he's hit 300 (km/hour) before with it.

During the screening of the movie, I took a cab back to my Proton Saga. I paused and stared a while before opening the door. And there it was, I felt it for the first time... that it sucks. I now want to own a sport car. Tun Dr. Mahathir, you're so rich, sponsor me one please. I promise I won't blog about you. You help me, I help you.

Mahathir at Pavilion KL The Loft during The Host Lotus Convoy Malaysia

Okay okay, don't get mad, was just kiddin' yo. He was there to grace the event as well. Anyway, here's more photos I had taken during the event. It's one of those days I wished I had more than just a Blackberry to take pictures.

WeChat parties in Malaysia again! | Sponsored

WeChat Party 2013 Neverland KL Malaysia models promoters girls with soft toy plushie
Last night (April 2nd), this new and powerful mobile communication service provider made a larger mark in Malaysia by holding a bigger and better party than its initial launch last year, at Neverland Club KL, with practically every single active local blogger present.

The best news of night for me was that application's now available on Blackberry as well. And that means I now have a clearer understanding and firsthand experience on WeChat...

Most would agree that its most convenient feature is its voice messaging function which users can easily record what they wish to say in low-bitrate audio and just send it off exactly like a text message. This may save the lives of those who have a habit of texting while driving.

WeChat's intention of having brands as users could also be a total game changer in the social communication space. Like social media channels, users can follow brands on WeChat and conveniently view their clickable menu. Who knows, maybe in future we could even get Domino pizzas delivered to our homes by just messaging them on the app.

WeChat Launch Party 2013 Neverland KL Malaysia stage
Single lonely fellas should like the app more than anyone else as it has a social plugin which allows them to "Look Around" for users nearest to where they are and just simply ask them out. It's like a portable and instant version of dating websites. I can already foresee many developers creating various unique and interesting plugins for WeChat.

Without a doubt, WeChat is on the verge of being the next big thing in the world of communication and social technology. The only question is, why isn't everyone using it already? It's free, it's available on all major mobile platforms and it has more features than any other mobile communication apps I've ever came across.

WeChat download mobile devices supported

The WeChat Party 2013 was filled with music performances, buffet, free flow of beer and amusing onstage activities with Hello Kitty speakers, Dr. Dre's Beats Solo headphones and albums given out to participants as prizes. The night ended with a lucky draw for the main attraction - an iPad. Damn it, I should've brought my business card.

It was also announced that WeChat's two new ambassadors in Malaysia are Lisa Surihani and Shaheizy Sam. Both of them are featured in all three of the soon-to-be broadcasted local WeChat TV commercials. Here's one of the commercials with Shaheizy doin' the Harlem Shake:
