Sorry for the late entry about this. I've finally managed to get some time to watch the main card fights last night. Demetrious Johnson defended his UFC Flyweight Championship belt with his first ever submission win in the UFC. It was a world class wrestling and grappling from the "Mighty Mouse", a rare thing to say about this super quick and strong champion who was showing incredible standup striking abilities in all his previous fights in the UFC before this.
Although Johnson dominated the entire bout, he didn't manage to finish off his opponent John Moraga until the 5th round where he pulled off a 2nd kimura arm lock attempt from side control which he beautifully transitioned into a cross-legged arm bar. We can actually hear his great trainer Matt Hume's calm instruction saying, "There it is, there it is," notifying him that Moraga's right arm is there for the lock. Moraga did show a lot of heart, defending everything thrown at him until the final 3.43th minute of the bout. It's a great fight.
In the co-main event bout between Rory MacDonald and Jake Ellenberger, however, was not as entertaining. MacDonald played the safe game using his reach advantage and long jabs the entire fight while Ellenberger was able to only get within range a couple of times but didn't do enough. And thanks to the rangy jabs, MacDonald won by unanimous decision. It was a bore, to be very frank.
